Chez Thomas is in the perfect location, to use as a base to explore Normandy. There is so much to do and see when your here, within under an hour of our location.


Le Mont St Michele 45 Miniutes Drive 
Mont-Saint-Michel, rocky islet and famous sanctuary in Manche dÈpartement, Normandy region, France, off the coast of Normandy. It lies 41 miles (66 km) north of Rennes and 32 miles (52 km) east of Saint-Malo.Around its base are medieval walls and towers above which rise the clustered buildings of the village with the ancient abbey crowning the mount. 
 

One of the more popular tourist attractions in France, Mont-Saint-Michel was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979. This is the most spectacular of attractions.Truly breath taking and will take the best part of a day, to explore. A must for any visit to Normandy.

 

Bayeux  25 Minutes Drive
One of the most picturesque towns in Normandy. Taken without any conflict in WW11, this town has some of the most perfect and historic architecture. There are working water mills and and the world famous Bayeux Cathedral, Open every day to explore. There is a long high street full of Cafes, Bars, restaurants and shops, catering to all tastes and desires.

 

Saturday is Market Day in Bayeux, and for all those who want to discover the true feel of a french market, this is the place. There are all of the fruit, meat, fish, and cheese stalls that you would expect, but in addition, around the edges of the market, private venders arrive to sell their 
home produced goods and products. It could be a Jam or a Pate, or perhaps some Kittens or a rabbit.....what ever they have.....

 

Just walking around this market submerges you totally to life in France one hundred years ago and beyond. 

 

The Bayeux Tapestry 25 minutes
Presented beautifully in a museum in Bayeux, is possibly the most beautiful piece of art you will see during your stay in Normandy. The Bayeux Tapestry is an embroidered cloth nearly 70 metres (230 ft) long and 50 centimetres (20 in) tall, which depicts the events leading up to the 
Norman conquest of England concerning William, Duke of Normandy, and Harold, Earl of Wessex, later King of England, and culminating in the Battle of Hastings. 
 

It is thought to date to the 11th century, within a few years after the battle. 
It tells the story from the point of view of the conquering Normans, but is now agreed to have been made in England. 

 

Bayeux War Cemetery & Museum
The Bayeux War Cemetery is the largest Second World War cemetery of Commonwealth soldiers in France, located in Bayeux, Normandy.  The cemetery contains 4,648 burials, mostly of the Invasion of Normandy

The D-Day Landing Beaches 
All of the WW11 landing beaches are within easy reach of Chez Thomas. As are many of the most crucial factors in Operation Market Garden. Including Pegasus Bridge. Villers Bocage (the scene of a famous tank battle).

The City of Caen 
The capital of Normandy, Caen is a modern busy cosmopolitan city, with its shops, cafes and restaurants catering to all tastes. There is night life, and a marina and a large thriving market on a Sunday morning. Historically, in the centre of town is the castle. Which houses two large art galleries. There are two beautiful cathedrals.

 

Caen War Memorial
Caen has a huge war memorial. It is worth giving yourself plenty of time to walk around this. It is dramatic and thought provoking insight to war.

The Normandy Coastline
If laying on a beach is part of the plan for your holiday, Normandy has long stretches of beautiful sandy beaches, perfect for swimming or just spending your time, soaking up the sun. 
 

Jurque Zoo
For the young ones, or anyone interested in the more exotic world of wild life, why not visit Jurque Zoo. Packed with every type of creature imaginable, this is a wonderful and educational way to spend your time and entertain the family.
